Rob Saik: Global Agri-trekker
In the summer of 2011, the Central Alberta Access Prosperity
team invited Central Alberta companies to join our delegation to
the United States. The trip, organized and facilitated
by the Access Prosperity team, gave businesses
the opportunity to tour agri-businesses and research
centres in Missouri and Kansas. The following is a profile of one
of our business' experience:
Rob Saik is a local agri-business leader and founder of the Agri-Trend group
of companies that offer agronomic and carbon-offset consulting
services. He travels extensively learning about agricultural
technology and research.
In this instalment of his Agri-Treks web video series, Rob captures his
trip to the University of Missouri and the Danforth
Plant Science Center. He visits Mizzou's farm land that has
been traditionally cultivated for 150 years and the U's Sears
Growth and Plant Facility where they create new plant species from
transgenic material.
At the cutting-edge Danforth Center, Rob learns about their
algae biofuels program and research into increasing nutrient
density and weed control in popular crops from around the globe. He
also encounters a far-out 3D cellular photo gallery at the
Center.
